Unfading Hope

Having unfading hope makes one forget the Hereafter, while following one’s desires deviates from the truth.  This world is retreating and the Hereafter is coming, so be among the sons of the Hereafter, but do not be among the followers of this world; because today there is action without reckoning, whereas tomorrow, there is reckoning without (any more) action.

—Ali ibn Abi Talib [d. 40AH]

(Read on pg 55, Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya, Spiritual Disease and It’s Cure. Al-Firdous Ltd. London:2006.)

Dunya Is Like a Shadow

This dunya is like a shadow. If you try to catch it, you will never be able to do so. If you turn your back towards it, it has no choice but to follow you.

—Ibn al-Qayyim [d. 751H/1350CE]

Seek the Hereafter

O youth! Seek the hereafter, for we often see people pursuing the hereafter and finding it as well as the dunyâ, but we have never seen anyone pursue the dunyâ and gain the hereafter as well as the dunyâ.

—al-Hasan al-Basri [d. 110AH]
